SMART AND LOGICAL
Gifts that Pay You Income
Did you know you can make a gift to the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven that returns an annual payment to you? You can also designate the remainder of that gift for your synagogue and/or a
local Jewish organization. These life income gifts include charitable
gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts. The IRS allows and encourages these creative plans which provide income to you for life or a term of years with the remainder to the charity you designate. And
if you fund the gift with appreciated assets such as stock or real estate, you reduce and defer capital gains, receive an income tax deduction, and potentially generate an additional income stream for you and your loved ones.
PLANTING A SEED: A FAMILY’S LEGACY OF GIVING
Irving Eckhardt has passed away, however his and his family’s legacy
in New Haven continues. Irving left most of his estate to charity, which included a bequest for Westville Synagogue as well as a large endowment for the Jewish Foundation.
Irving remembered his parents, Nathan and Ida, as hard-working Jewish immigrants who were charitable “even when they could not afford to be”. Irving established a fund and named it in memory of his parents because “it felt right.” Per Mr. Eckhardt’s instructions, it is designated to make annual distributions to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven (also known as a PACE fund).
