The Legacy of Sol Rosenkranz: The Krośniewice Jewish Cemetery Fund

Sol Rosenkranz

Sol Rosenkranz was a visionary dedicated to preserving the heritage of an abandoned Jewish cemetery in the heart of Krośniewice, central Poland.

Sol’s dedication to the cause was unwavering, and from the moment the cemetery was revitalized in 2014 until his passing in 2019, he took immense pride in upholding its dignity and safeguarding the memories it held.

In a heartfelt tribute to their beloved father, Joel and Rita Rosenkranz opened the Sol Rosenkranz Memorial Matching Fund. Each donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000!

This fund is designed to ensure the perpetual care of preserving the heritage of an abandoned Jewish cemetery in the heart of Krośniewice, central Poland. Sol’s commitment to this noble cause was unwavering, and from the moment the cemetery was revitalized in 2014 until his passing in 2019, he took immense pride in upholding its dignity and safeguarding the memories it held.

In the face of a tumultuous history, the cemetery’s headstones were stripped away by the hands of the Nazis in 1939, and then followed years of neglect during the post-war and Communist eras. Then over the years, the abandoned site transformed into an overgrown thicket, concealing the countless Jewish graves beneath.

The fund will focus on annual upkeep, involving the careful pruning of shrubs and trees, as well as maintaining the sturdy perimeter fencing. Through strategic partnerships with the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven and the Friends of Jewish Heritage in Poland, this fund will provide a dignified final resting place for generations to come.
