Drell Family Scholarship Fund in Memory of Dr. Barry L. Zaret
The Drell Family Scholarship Fund in Memory of Dr. Barry L. Zaret, was recently established by Renee Drell and her daughters through the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven. It awards scholarships to high school seniors headed off to college and college students entering their sophomore, junior and senior year.

Eligibility for Drell Family Fund in Memory of Dr. Barry L. Zaret Scholarship
- The Scholarship award is for college tuition.
- The Scholarship award will be in an amount to be determined by the scholarship committee. A letter of acceptance and a tuition bill must be submitted before award payments will be made.
ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility is based on financial need, limited to Connecticut area Jewish residents, and for students who have expressed an interest in the arts and sciences.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
- Parent’s 2024 or most recent 1040 tax return;
- 750 word essay responding to the questions detailed below; and
- Submission of both by May 29.
PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR 750 WORD ESSAY:
- Tell us about yourself and your family composition.
- Tell us why you feel that you should receive a financial scholarship.
- Tell us about your interest in the arts and/or sciences, please be specific.
- What paid employment (s) have you had during your high school and/or college experience? What did you learn from this employment?
- Tell us about any volunteer experiences you’ve had in the past four years and what you’ve learned from the experience(s).
- What has been your involvement in Judaism since you entered high school and/or university?
- How have you spent the last three summers? What are your plans for this summer?
- What college plans/post college plans do you have?
- What challenges have you faced and how are you dealing with them and/or how have you overcome the challenges?
Submit your essay together with the 2024 or most recent 1040 tax return.
All submissions are held in strict confidence. Submissions are to the Jewish Foundation and are reviewed on a blind basis by the Drell family committee.
Essays and tax returns must be received by May 29. The award notification will be made by June 12.
