Women of Vision Society Application

Policies and Procedures

The Jewish Foundation’s Women of Vision Society has been helping women and girls in the Greater New Haven area and Israel for over 20 years. This endowment, created by 100 founding members in our community, has tackled issues from domestic violence and health to acculturation and spirituality. The endowment has more than doubled its membership and giving since its creation. Since its inception, Women of Vision has disbursed over $220,000 to help seed and sustain critical programming and services for women and girls.

DEADLINE: January 31, 2025

Goals:

  1. Enhance the quality of life for Jewish women and their families to ensure Jewish continuity.
  2. Build bridges among Jewish women of all traditions in order to foster a robust Jewish community
  3. Encourage collaboration between Jewish organizations in order to maximize use of resources.
  4. Reach out to unaffiliated Jewish women to cultivate a connection with the Greater New Haven Jewish community
  5. Support community programs that nurture and advance Jewish values, including Tikkun Olam.

Criteria for Project Selection

  1. The relevance of the project to the goals as stated by Women of Vision.
  2. The degree to which there is a demonstrated need for the project or program within the Jewish community of Greater New Haven or Israel.
  3. The extent to which project activities are well planned and feasible.
  4. The applicant’s (organization or individual) capability to carry out the proposed project.
  5. A justifiable and appropriate budget in relation to the proposed project.
  6. If planned as an ongoing and/or multi-year program, a programmatic and financial projection that plans for sustainability and independence from Women of Vision Society funding in the future.
  7. Priority will be given to women or programs in the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven
    catchment area (see attached).

Procedures

  1. Grant applications will be accepted from tax-exempt organizations classified under Section 501(c)3 or described in Section 170(b)(1)(A) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  2. When applicable, applications must be signed by the Executive Director and the Board President or another officer of the applicant organization
  3. Grants will be made for only one year. Renewals may be considered depending on meeting the criteria specified, available funding, and successful completion of the initial grant
  4. Grant recipients are required to submit a final report (“Grant Evaluation”) that includes an evaluation on the use of WOV funding. A copy of the format for the Grant Evaluation is attached to this application
  5. If your organization has previously been awarded a Women of Vision Society Grant, the Grants Committee will consider prior performance including:
    i. whether the money that was awarded was utilized;
    ii. whether the program or project for which the grant was awarded was used for the purpose for which it was awarded; and
    iii. whether an adequate final report and/or evaluation was submitted.
  6. All publicity about the project, program, or service must state that funding, in total or in part, was provided by the Women of Vision Society. This is the language that should be used:
    “This project (or program) was made possible through a grant from the Women of Vision Society of the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven.” The Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven logo is available upon request for use in program materials.
    7. All programs and events must be cleared for conflicts prior to confirmation of event date(s), and the date(s) for your event(s) must be submitted to the Jewish Community Calendar
