Lucille Alderman and David A. Beckerman are Recognized Members of the “Star of David Society” for Outstanding Contributions to Jewish Institutions
Lucille Alderman and David. A. Beckerman are members of the national “Star of David Society.” The Star of David Society is a national program of United Jewish Communities and the Federations of North America that honors outstanding philanthropists who have created a PACE or LOJE gift (an endowment fund that perpetuates a federation donor’s annual campaign gift) of $200,000, or other permanent endowments of $500,000 or more– with their local Jewish Foundation.
Lucille and her late husband, Arnold, have always been strong supporters of the Jewish community, the UJA-Federation, and endowment–creating endowments at the Jewish Foundation for local Jewish agencies as well as local non-Jewish institutions (including the Peabody Museum, St. Raphael’s, Ezra Academy, Congregation B’nai Jacob and Planned Parenthood). “My late husband Arnold and I have always supported both the Jewish and non-Jewish community. After all, it is the larger community that supported us and made it possible for us to give back. However, we try to do all our giving, whether it be to a Jewish or non-Jewish organization, Jewishly–that means giving through the Jewish Foundation to both Jewish and non-Jewish beneficiaries. We have always believed that we have been blessed and it is a privilege to give back,” said Lucille.
David has always been a strong supporter of endowment, as well as of the Jewish Foundation, creating endowments at the Jewish Foundation for local Jewish agencies as well as local non-Jewish institutions (including the Shubert Theater, University of New Haven and Hamden Hall Country Day School). “Endowment is the lifeblood of our community, and it is essential in order for the future strength of Federation and our agencies,” states David, adding “we need to plant the seed for the next generation just like those before us. I was able to attend JCC programs and go to Camp Laurelwood because of scholarships, someone in the community provided for me, in the same way, I feel an obligation to provide for the next generation.”
The Star of David Society has more than 1700 national members with a combined endowment of more than $1.5 billion.
