Norman Alderman established the Elliott S. Alderman Memorial Fund for the benefit of Temple Beth Sholom
Norman established the fund in his brother Elliott’s memory, for the benefit of Elliott’s beloved synagogue, Temple Beth Sholom in Hamden. The fund is also supported by Elliott’s wife Diane and his daughters, Jennifer and Cyna.
I spoke with Rabbi Ben Scolnic. Rabbi Scolnic lived up the street from Elliott, both living a few blocks from the synagogue. Elliott was a past president of TBS, he was a young president, in his 30s when he served. He continued to be a stalwart at the synagogue. He liked NY sports teams. Grew up in New Haven. His daughters grew up there. He was an extremely genuine, loyal and consistent person. He was the same person as a husband, father, synagogue member, community member, employer, and businessman. He did a few things, but always with devotion and consistency. Involved with TBS and Red Cross, pillar of the synagogue, and involved with the endowment committee. He “had vision for the synagogue he saw the endowment as a foundation for the future, he was always thinking a few steps ahead, makes sense that family members established an endowment in his memory”. “He and his brother Norman were complementary of one another; they worked well together and were always supportive and in agreement”.
At morning minyan non-family members said Kaddish for him. “This hit people hard. He cannot be replaced and we feel it every day”
