Marty Noretsky Created a Legacy for the Jewish Cemetery Association of Greater New Haven
“Both of my parents were born in New Haven. I was also born in New Haven, but we moved to Miami five years after the death of my sister, Harriet, at age six. Harriet died of the flu and is buried in a Jewish cemetery in New Haven. Clearly this great loss was devastating for my parents and me.
I was just three when Harriet died, and my life was forever changed—I went from being the youngest child, to an only child, and finally to the oldest child after the birth of my brother. I am now in my 70s and have concluded that I have lived a fulfilling life that was denied Harriet. With this recognition, I visit her gravesite—and those of my grandparents and other family members who surround her—when I come to see family in Greater New Haven. I contribute annually to the Jewish Cemetery Association of Greater New Haven to help somewhat with the funds needed to maintain the cemetery. I have also decided to include a bequest to the Cemetery Association in my Living Trust, so that the organization may continue its very important mission: honoring our loved ones’ memory by maintaining the grounds in they were laid to rest.” —Marty
