In response to the devastating wildfires in Southern California, the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven is providing a list of philanthropic ideas to consider for support. We will update this list as the situation evolves.

Los Angeles Jewish Federation

The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles (JFEDLA) has created a Wildfire Crisis Relief Fund to support their neighbors affected by this catastrophic event. One hundred percent of your gift will go directly to those who need it most.

The California Community Foundation distributes grants to affected communities. The foundation’s team utilizes data from CalFire and CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index to ensure their grants target the neediest communities with both intermediate recovery and long-term support.

Americares is launching a rapid response to restore access to health services and address the most urgent health needs in affected communities.

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is in Southern California to support first responders and families impacted by wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

International Medical Corps.-Headquartered in Los Angeles, International Medical Corps is delivering relief supplies—including hygiene kits and first-aid kits—to support affected communities affected by the fires, and stands ready to provide additional support and services to health facilities as needed.

Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation

LAFD firefighters need your help to save lives and protect property during this wildfire. The LAFD Foundation is actively seeking funds to equip their LAFD members battling wildfires with equipment and supplies including emergency fire shelters, hydration backpacks and wildland brush tools.

Project Angel Food

Project Angel Food is a LA based meal delivery service for critically ill residents. 

ANIMAL RESCUE

Pasadena Humane Society


Together with field teams from across the country, the Pasadena Humane Society is actively serving animal needs in disaster-affected areas in collaboration with  LA County Animal Care and Control, the ASPCA, and other regional rescue organizations. They are logging every report of animals left behind and dispatching search and rescue teams as quickly as possible in areas that are safe to enter.

They are prioritizing reports of animals seen alive in the area and in urgent need of medical attention, as well as cases where owners have informed them that they were forced to leave their pets behind. 

This is an operation of unprecedented scale and complexity.

LA County Animal Care is supporting pet owners and their pets displaced by the Southern California wildfires as well as providing shelter to an unprecedented number of animals.
